NIDDM. May be used in combination w/ other oral antidiabetics or insulin.
Dosage/Direction for Use
500 mg tds may be increased gradually if necessary to max 3 g daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Renal or hepatic impairment, CV collapse, CHF, acute MI, predisposition to hypotension or hypoglycaemia. DM complicated by acidosis, infection or gangrene. Surgery. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Lactic acidosis. Discontinue on administration of iodinated contrast agent & reinstitute until 48 hr afterwards. Monitor growth development in childn & adolescents. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, metallic taste, wt loss, weakness, lassitude, rash. Lactic acidosis, possibly heralded by vomiting, abdominal pain, hyperventilation & diminished consciousness may occur.
